Brembo Brakes, A Company's History
Brembo S.p.A. was established in Bergamo, Italy in 1961. It is now known as one of the top manufacturers of braking systems for automotives. The company is highly acclaimed for its contribution to high-performance cars and motorcycles. Because of its rising popularity it now operates on several locations around the world.
At the beginning, the Brembo company exclusively importing disc brakes from the United Kingdom. This naturally set them up as a specialist in automotive disc brakes. 1964 marked the year when Bremo entered into a supply contract with Alfa Romeo. This made them the official supplier of brake accessories to Moto Guzzi. After that, their reach extended even further. In the early 1980’s the company began supplying brake components to Chrysler, BMW, Lancia, Nissan, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz. In 1995, the Brembo company began selling 1,300 products worldwide.
The Brembo company is not only known for their disc brakes, but they also produce other brake parts such as calipers, drums and rotors, and brake lines. The company takes part in ongoing research and experiments to keep up their competitive advantage over other brake manufacturers. Unlike some, the Brembo Company controls the entire production system, all the way from raw materials and straight down to distribution. Brembo owns and operates the foundries where production and supplying takes place. Their methods for production have been highly appreciated. They were rated number one year after year and they’ve become certified with the Qs9000 and the ISO 9001 awards several times.
Brembo braking systems are pretty universal. The following manufacturers use brembo brakes in their standard models: Aprilia, Bimota, BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Husqvarna, IMZ-Ural, KMT, Moto Guzzi, and MV Agusta. Brembo brakes also come as a standard on supercar marques such as Ashton Martin, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Pagani, and Porsche cars as well as high-end American sportscars the Ford Mustang GT, the Chevrolet Corvette, and the Dodge Viper. Other car companies such as Acura, Fiat, Subaru, Hyundai, Jaguar, Volkswagen, Land Rover, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Infiniti, Renault and Volvo use brembo brakes as either a standard or an upgrade option.
