What's the best way to polish an aluminum gas tank?
I've tried an electric buffer, but the pad gets black instantly. NAPA sells an aluminum etching liquid, what does it do?
lets first make sure we are on the same page, you say you wnat to polish it and it turns black right away, it sounds like you been trying to buff it. first of all polishing is where you would use a 80 to 500 grit belt to take out all the inperfections, iot does not sound like you have the capabilty to run a belt on a wheel at 3500 rpm to acomplish this, next we got what is called buffing for a high shine now you need a buffing wheel and compound there are compounds that just but with no color meaning shine then you have cut and color compound and then you have coloring compound, i might suggest an 80 grit flap wheel on a dumore you will need a compressor this is easy to find at www.granger.com put the flap wheel on the dumore and then connect it to the compressor with an air line and start polishing, then get a buff and compound if you want a high shine. hope this helps
