Good idea but it just doesn't work

This item seemed like a good idea, for the most part it appears to be well made, had a camera attachment which was interesting. The problem is that it just dosen't secure to the handle bars tight enough. As soon as you hit the least vibration the thing rotates and your gps is looking at the ground. The rubber pull strap does not lock into the lever. The plastic release/lock lever gets easily fatigued after a couple of releases and no longer locks.

If the mount had a secure screw mount it woudl be fine, the rubber band is a failure. Would not recommend this mount.

perfect fit

I bought this to hold my GPS unit on my cycle. Most of what I found in the market place was a semi perminent install. This unit goes on and comes off very easily. I feel that it is sturdy enough to work just fine on the motorcycle and allows me to take it off and put it in the bag when not in use.

GPS Mount

Good Mount only did not work for me. I ended up getting a magnetic mount so it would hold the unit close, right on the dash and not stick out.

rubber bands will make it work

I purchased this bike/motorcycle mount after reading the reviews which said that the GPS falls off upon hitting a hard bump. The first thing I did was tie a knot in the end of two rubber bands and then use the loop formed to push the rubber bands over the ball post. I then snapped the unit onto the ball and stretched the other loop of the rubber bands around the unit.

I found that my gps (Nuvi 400) did fall off the ball at first, however it stayed right there due to the rubber bands holding it. After a bit of adjustment of the rubber bands it stayed on the ball even off road, hitting really big bumps.

Also, I found that the strap that goes around the handlebars which hold the attachment in place cannot be tightened enough to not have it slide around due to the weight of GPS. To remedy this, I drlled a small hole through the strap into the handlebar and put a small screw in to keep it from slipping. This worked fine.

All in all, the bike mount worked as I expected and I did enjoy having it on my bike as I did a 30 mile trip on the canals in Phoenix AZ. Seems that manufacturers would have thought of these two obvious problems.

If you do not use rubber bands, and you try to put it on a bicycle, you can expect to see your GPS go bouncing and sliding on the ground. The ball mount is not strong enough.

Convenient BUT .... you better use some super glue

I have used this mount for two bike rides. It is easy to put on and remove from my bike's handlebars and performed fine. However, because it uses the standard garmin ball in cradle design, I am constantly nervous that a road bump will send it flying. This concern was confirmed when I stopped riding and used my bike's kickstand and my bike fell over. The garmin with cradle flew off the mount's ball. Luckily the bike was on the grass so no harm occurred to the gps. But if it had hit a sidewalk, it could have been toast. Obviously you could make the claim that no mount is perfect and this uses the standard garmin issue cradle. So you don't have to spend much money to get your gps on your bike. But I would only use this mount again if I glued the cradle to the mount. I think this is a good solution to the problem. Unfortunately for me, there are no replacement cradles on the market for the nuvi 500. You can find replacements for the 200 series cheaply on ebay. Because I need my nuvi 500's cradle for the car, I can't glue it so I have ordered a Ram cradle and bike mount. I know the Ram cradle is secure since I use one on my Honda Silverwing.
