I have a stick shift, but there is no tachometer?

My 2000 Ford Focus manual trans doesn't have a tach-meter in the guage. If I replace the guage is it feasible to get one with a tach, or will things be out of place. For example do i risk hiding/covering certain features that come stock? Or will they still be visible?

Where do you recommend I get one? I saw some on ebay, but there isn't much to choose from. I'm not looking for any racing guages. I just want something that stands out, like on current vehicles now.

Another thing that has me confused is that on an auto with o/d same year and later they have a tachometer on it. That doesn't makes sense to me, how do you explain that?

usualy, base models do not have tachometer.

Automatic transmision is usualy an optional for higher line of accesoryes, also for more powerfull motors.

I had two cars with no tachometer.. but you can tell their rpms from the speed, also you know when to change gear from the sound.. it's pretty basic, but you get used to it.

You can change the dials with dials with a tachometer, but you'll reset the odometer. But it's quite expensive, try a salvage yard for it (obvieusly, you are looking for a ford focus 2000 dash dials, others won't fit, and for most of times won't work either)

An optional tachometer can be installed, with it's probe pointing to the flywheel, or any other pulley on accesory belt or timing belt, you then just need to adjust to the engeine rpms (based on the ratio between the engine and that pulley, the flywheel has a constant 1:1 ratio, so no modification required if you reach the flywheel)
