Removal of Ford Escort sunroof handle to replace cowl underneath. Help!?

I have a Mk 6 UK Escort and need to remove the sunroof handle to replace the the plastic bit under it so i can clip my sun visors in place. I have tried and failed, nearly done the screw head in.
I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

Firstly, use the right tool - Philips No.2 screwdriver, or star-shaped "Torx" bit - Ford like to use both.

If the condition of the screw head is getting critical, maybe giving it a squirt of good old WD40 and then leaving it for a bit to soak into the joint mught be a good idea.
