Can you take an crankshaft off of an engine with only an wheel engine lift?
I getting my car repair from an person I know for years. He work outside of an auto shop. he going to use what he has to work on my car, a portable car lift. Can it be done?
I have an Mercury Sable 95 with 3.8 engine.
I guess he can get it out!
Disconnect the negative battery cable, then drain the engine oil.
Remove the engine from the vehicle and mount it on a suitable work stand.
Tag and disconnect the ignition wires from the spark plugs, then remove the distributor cap and ignition wires as an assembly.
Remove the spark plugs.
Remove the oil pan and oil pickup tube.
Remove the front cover and water pump as an assembly.
Remove the distributor drive gear,.
Remove the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets and the timing chain.To do this: pull back on the ratcheting mechanism of the timing chain vibration damper, then install the pin through the hole to relieve the tension against the chain.
Remove the flywheel and the engine rear cover.
Remove the connecting rod bearing nuts and caps.
Identify each bearing cap to insure that they are installed in their original positions.
Push the pistons up into the cylinder and put pieces of rubber hose on the connecting rod bolts so the crankshaft journals do not get damaged.
Inspect all the machined surfaces on the crankshaft for nicks, scratches, scores, etc., which could cause premature bearing wear.
As you can see...it say's remove the engine from the vehicle
