I was pricked by a ceramic needle tool? Help?
Today in ceramics class I pricked myself with a needle tool by accident (that other classmates use). My finger started bleeding and I went to the nurse to wash it with soap & water and get a band-aid. Am I at risk for HIV or Hepatitis or something? I know you can contact those diseases through needles... and I'm a bit scared.
You are not at risk for HIV or hepatitis from this.
HIV and hepatitis can be spread through blood, but both require significant blood contact (ie, you share blood with someone else directly). Neither of these will live on a surface like a needle for more than a few minutes.
Depending on how clean the needle was, you could get a more common bacterial infection from it. It's good you washed it thoroughly. You might want to check it for soreness or color change and treat it with a topical disinfectant like Neosporin.
Good luck!
