How do I start Jumping Motocross Bikes?

I was wondering how I should start jumping my KTM 250SX.

I'm 13 and I have been riding since 1st Dec 2007 So I don't know very much.
I am 5'2 and 105lbs.
Should I make my front forks very soft?

I tried a jump today, It was compact dirt about 1.5ft high and I was in powerband on 2nd gear. I got about 1 foot of air and i landed on the front wheel and it through my body on the bar pad, i didn't fall of though. I was not satisfied.

How do I jump well?

Dude, if you were 2nd gear pin you would of got a lot more air.

Start small like your doing and gradually learn how to lean, where to put weight and use the compression of of your forks on the up ramp to assist jump.

Alough you might want to back throttle off when you jump, DONT as this will result in a massive nose dive. Consitant throttle throughout up ramp, but saying that if you keep it pinned all the way trhough jump, this willn result in endoing the bike (like the start of a backflip, thats later on lol)

As you start small you will start to get a fell of howmuch throttle, how much to lean foward etc in time, and of course it all depends on the up and down ramp.

Then when you start getting consitant air you need to learn how to control it. This again is controlled with throttle and rear brake. If you start to nose dive gas it to bring the front up, if you start to flip it use the rear brake(and clutch if nesecarry) to bring the front down.

Its all about practcise and getting the confidnce and skill, no one can tell ya how to jump, just comes with practise.

And ill say this for your mum "BE CAREFUL!!!!" lol
