How do I use my Japanese polish kit, red cloth ball with powder, rice paper and oil. Please advise. Thanks?

I will be polishing a very old Japanese short sword, it is very good condition now but I want it to be even better.

Always hold sharp side away from you.
1.Use rice paper to remove any residue oil or dirt.
2.Tap the powder ball lightly every 2inches up the length on both sides while dusting gently.(On first use you may have to tap a few times to release powder)
3.Use clean piece of rice paper to rub powder and polish the blade( until powder removed)
4.Apply a few drops of oil and spread with a clean piece of rice paper.
