Indy Racing League (IRL) Tickets – Will Power Lives up to His Name at St. Pete

IndyCar extraordinaire Will Power has already made an impact on the 2010 racing season, and his recent path to IRL domination has helped the young Australian live up to his name, as it's his 'willpower' that's driven this open-wheel prodigy into the spotlight.

Power went from taking a huge risk on a part-time ride in 2009 to being the series leader after the first two races of the 2010 season, and his second straight IndyCar win at St. Pete on March 29 helped solidify his mainstay status in the racing league. Power opened the 2010 IRL season with a win at Sao Paulo, and he's red-hot going into the April 11 Birmingham race, perhaps signaling the Aussie will be a perfect 3-0 to start the 2010 year with Team Penske.

During the March 28 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida, Power captured the pole and outlasted a rain-delayed race to keep his first-place start, albeit slipping a few notches here and there as the damp St. Pete street course got underway. Power fell from first to fourth place immediately after a slow start in the St. Pete race on March 28, but when a rain delay pushed the race into the next day on March 29, Power recovered his reign at the front of the pack and stole the spotlight for the second week in a row at No. 1.

Speaking to ESPN after his glorious first-place finish at St. Pete, Power said, "Fantastic start. I can't ask for much better. It's my first full season in a good team and I'm just putting it all together with my four years of experience here." He continued, "We're out to win the championship. Perfect pit stops and a good race. It was a perfect weekend – pole and a win. You can't beat that."

No one expected Will Power to be standing tall as the league leader going into the third race of the IndyCar Series this year, especially considering that this time last year the Australian driver was strictly racing as the fill-in for a legally troubled Helio Castroneves, but perhaps now he can parlay two early wins into a series championship later this year.

The last driver to have posted back-to-back wins off the fly in the IRL was Sam Hornish Jr., now a NASCAR regular, who won the first two races of the year in 2001. Hornish went on to win the series championship that year, and if history is any signifier Power will look to do the same this year in the IRL.

Will Power is now on top of the IndyCar circuit, but this time last year his status on the racetrack was iffy at best. Power took a huge gamble last year when he accepted Roger Penske's offer to drive in Helio Castroneves' place while Castroneves was on trial for tax evasion, as he knew that if/when Castroneves did return, he would lose his spot. Castroneves did indeed coming back prior to the Indy 500, but Power's impressive racing abilities had scored so much attention by then that he was soon offered a full-time ride with Penske. He's now a regular contributor to the sales of Indy Racing League (IRL) tickets, and all eyes will be on the 29-year-old driver to retain his perfect start to 2010 as the season continues.
