How to Install Your Thermostatic Valve
Getting a thermostatic valve for your home is very important. In fact, no home should be without it – as stipulated by home construction codes all over the country. The great thing about a thermostatic valve is that you can actually install it yourself. You can simply buy one at a home depot center and come home to put everything in place and be done right before dinner time. Here is a simplified instruction manual that you can refer to when you think you are feeling overwhelmed about getting this task done.
Things You Will Need
Before you install your thermostatic valve, it is important that you have the necessary tools. Aside from the thermostatic valve itself, you will need a screwdriver, a wrench, a solder, a thermometer and a torch. If you do not have all items in your possession, you can simply borrow one from a neighbor or a family member.
The first thing you need to do is to double check what laws are for your local building or housing with regard to the installation of a thermostatic valve. You want to make sure that you follow the requirements so as not to get in trouble with your building manager, if you have one. Second, switch off the water from the main supply. As soon as you finish this, open all the faucets in the home so the excess water will be drained out. This may take a bit of your time, so be patient please!
When you are sure that they are all drip-free already, choose an ideal location for the thermostatic valve. In this case, ideal means a place that is easy to clean or easy to reach out to when the thermostatic valve needs to be serviced. You should also keep in mind that your dishwasher can also benefit from using hotter water, so you can also run another line from the actual water heater straight to the dishwasher as well as other appliances that might need a hotter flow of water.
Fourth, whip out your solder and start soldering the connections found in the thermostatic valve prior to attaching it. You have to do this so you will prevent the gasket from blowing or becoming damaged. Make sure that the solder you use is also safe for the potable water, thus preventing any harmful elements or bacteria come into contact with the drinking water in your place. Make sure that the connections are tightly connected to the valve.
Testing the Waters
Sixth, turn the water back on to check if the temperature is changing. You can do this with a thermometer. You need to spend some time with this because the first flow of water would be the original temperature you started out with. And finally, get a hold of the hand wheel which will be used to adjust the temperature by way of the dial you will find there. As you can see, it is not that complicated to install a thermostatic valve (Do you know that in Dutch the term is Thermostaatkraan?) – and if you have a bit of trouble you can ask a plumber to assist you.
